Who we help

Back, neck and nerve pain: what people come to us with

01

Lower back pain

It aches after a day at the desk or a long drive, catches when you bend, or makes mornings stiff. We look for the cause first, then explain what can be done about it.

02

Neck pain

A stiff neck that is hard to turn, or pain that spreads into the shoulder or between the shoulder blades.

03

Sciatica and disc problems

Pain that runs from the lower back into the buttock and leg. If you have an MRI or X-ray, bring it with you.

04

Headaches from the neck

Headaches that start at the base of the skull, often worse later in the day or after long hours at a screen.

05

Pins and needles

Tingling or numbness in an arm, hand, leg or foot. Worth having checked.

What it can mean
06

Posture and desk work

Rounded shoulders, a tired back by the end of the day, a laptop on the sofa instead of a desk. We work on the body and suggest small changes to how you sit and move.

Your first visit

What happens at your first visit

No rush. You leave knowing what is going on and what to do next.

  1. Your story

Where it hurts, how it started, what makes it better or worse, and what you have already tried. Bring any MRI, X-ray or doctor’s reports.

  2. Safety checks

We ask about the signs that need a doctor rather than a chiropractor, such as the red flags listed further down this page.

  3. Examination

Simple tests of movement, strength and sensation to find where the problem is coming from.

  4. A clear explanation

What we found, what we think is behind it, and what your options are, in plain words.

  5. Treatment, if suitable

If chiropractic care suits you, treatment can start at the same visit. If it doesn’t, we say so and suggest who to see.

Pins and needles

Pins and needles, numbness or tingling in an arm or leg

These are nerve symptoms. Often they come from a nerve that is pressed or irritated where it leaves the spine. Sometimes they don’t, and that is exactly why an examination matters.

  • From the neck into the arm

An irritated nerve root in the neck can cause tingling, numbness or pain in the shoulder, arm, hand or fingers. Sometimes the arm bothers you more than the neck itself.

  • From the lower back into the leg

In the lower back, the same thing can send symptoms into the buttock, leg or foot. When they follow the path of the sciatic nerve, this is called sciatica.

  • Where you feel it is a clue

Each nerve root supplies its own strip of skin, so the exact place you feel the tingling helps show which level of the spine may be involved. The examination then checks movement, strength and sensation.

  • Not every case starts in the spine

A nerve can also be squeezed at the wrist or elbow, and conditions such as diabetes or low vitamin B12 can cause tingling in the hands or feet. Some of these causes need a doctor first. If your symptoms don’t fit a problem we can help with, Dr Zano will tell you and suggest who to see.

Safety first

When you need A&E, not a chiropractor

Most back, neck and nerve pain is not dangerous. These signs are the exception. If you have any of them, don’t book with us: get urgent medical help.

  • New difficulty passing urine, or loss of bladder or bowel control
  • Numbness or tingling in the “saddle” area: groin, inner thighs, genitals or buttocks
  • Weakness in one or both legs that is getting worse over hours or days
  • Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg, especially on one side, or sudden trouble speaking or seeing
Any of these: go to the hospital emergency department (A&E) now or call 112. Don’t wait for an appointment, including one with us.
Get medical help first, before any chiropractor, if the symptoms started after a serious fall or accident, come with fever or feeling generally unwell, or you have a history of cancer. We check for all of these signs at every first visit.

Questions

Questions about the Nicosia clinic

Anything else, just ask. Call or message us on +357 99 433537.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No. You can book directly. If you have an MRI, X-ray or letters from your doctor, please bring them.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Any scans you have (MRI, X-ray or CT) with their reports, letters from doctors, and a list of the medicines you take. Wear clothes you can move in comfortably.

Do you treat sciatica and disc problems in Nicosia?

Yes, we see back pain with leg pain, sciatica and disc problems in Nicosia. At the first visit Dr Zano examines you and checks for signs that need a doctor first. If chiropractic care suits you, he explains the plan and how many visits he expects you to need. If it doesn’t, he tells you and suggests who to see.

Is chiropractic safe? Who should not have spinal manipulation?

For most people with back or neck pain, chiropractic care after a proper examination is a reasonable and generally safe option. Some people feel mild soreness for a day or two afterwards, much like after exercise. Spinal manipulation is not suitable for everyone, for example after a recent fracture or serious injury, with severe osteoporosis, with an infection or tumour in the spine, or when nerve symptoms are getting worse quickly. That is why we examine you first. If manipulation is not right for you, we will say so and talk you through other options, or refer you to a doctor.

Can I have acupuncture or dry needling in Nicosia?

Dr Zano uses acupuncture and dry needling alongside chiropractic care when they suit the problem. If you would like needling at your Nicosia appointment, mention it when you book so we can confirm. Both are also available at our Limassol clinic.

Which language are consultations in?

Consultations are in English. Dr Zano can also do a basic consultation in Russian, and he replies to messages in Russian on WhatsApp and Telegram: +357 96 117140.
